Job Title: Assistant Park Superintendent -Full-Time/Exempt
Job Purpose: Overall assistant management of park operations, including grounds maintenance, landscaping and some coordination of construction and planning efforts. Must have a strong knowledge of departmental objectives, policies, and operations to effectively assist in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the park as well as supervising and managing a large crew including two foreman. Will keep accurate records and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements as directed by the Superintendent.
The Assistant Park Superintendent works with the park foremen and reports directly to the Superintendent of Parks. This position provides a unique opportunity to build a strong culture within our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be a positive leader, motivator, and will act as a mentor to our team. The ability to communicate in Spanish is preferred.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
A minimum of 4 years of landscape maintenance experience is required
Must have solid knowledge of plant, tree and grass species
Minimum of 4 years large park maintenance experience
Construction experience is a plus
Experience managing, organizing and leading a large crew
Training, motivating and supervising staff capable of performing the tasks associated with maintaining the park
Desire to become a Superintendent
Strong leadership, team-building, and interpersonal skills are needed
Maintain a positive, safe, respectful working environment which will be following all city, county, and state regulations
Assists in staff management and evaluation, employee safety and employee counseling
Self-starter who leads by example
Strong organizational skills and a keen eye for detail
Irrigation operation, troubleshooting, and supervision of repairs of all components of the irrigation system
Experience calibrating, and applying, and monitoring chemical and fertilizer applications
Oversee safe operations, proper maintenance, and care of all equipment required for the maintenance of the park and facility
Ensuring proper use, cleanliness, and security of maintenance facilities and equipment
Strong oral and written communication skills
Knowledge and operational skills in Word and Excel programs a plus
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent plus AA or Bachelors Degree (preferred)

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS
Valid California Driver’s License
Bilingual - English/Spanish
Experience with Toro irrigation operating system preferred
Must be able to attain California QAL/QAC within 180-days of employment
Ability to lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs.
May be required to work in various weather conditions; heat, sun, humidity, rain, wind, cold and fog.
